Bernice Vaughn was born September 22, 1920 in Whiting, Iowa to Everett H. and Grayce (Abel) Hall, She died June 24, 1993 at her home in Grundy Center of natural Causes. She was 72 years old. Bernice grew up in the Whiting area and graduated from the Whiting High School in 1936. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Upon completion of teacher’s college, Bernice began teaching at Washington, Iowa Schools. She also taught at Dunkerton, Iowa and Marshalltown, Iowa moving to Grundy Center in 1950. She taught in Grundy Center for a short period, before leaving to raise her family. She returned teaching in the Grundy Center schools in 1964, retiring in 1985. Bernice was married to Clark C. Vaughn, December 22, 1949 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Four children were born to this union; Larry, Brent, Mary Win and Patricia.

Bernice was a member of the United Methodist Church on Grundy Center, Network Women, American Legion Auxillary, Women’s Club, New Perspectus Club, and the Iowa Genealogy Society.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clark in 1980; and a sister, Winifred.

She is survived by her sons; Larry and Brent of Grundy Center, daughters; Mary Win Vaughn of Gamer, Iowa and Patricia (Mrs. Stephen) Paris of Kent, Washington, three grandchildren; Kelli Vaughn, Warren and Christopher Paris; two sisters; Pauline Smith of Onawa, Iowa and Doris Kadlub of Whiting, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 28, 1993 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa with the Rev, George E Gibson officiating. Interment followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed towards the family.
