Benjamin W Skidmore, Sr. a longtime resident of Whiting, passed away Monday evening, March 6, 1972 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa after an illness of six weeks. He had reached the age of 77 years, 4 months and 11 days.

He was born at Onawa, Iowa on October 25, 1894, the son of Shirley T and Effie Wonder Skidmore. On March 7, 1916, he was united in marriage to Blanche McKee at Sioux City and that same year the couple moved to Whiting. For a number of years Mr Skidmore farmed near Whiting and later operated the Whiting Theatre.

He was a member of the Church of Christ at Whiting.

Survivors include two sons, Shirley T and Ben Jr, both of Whiting; one daughter, Mrs Vincent (Esther) Thielman of Loveland, Colo. eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Marjorie Utsman, Sun City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche in 1964 and one son Robert in 1947.

Funeral services were held March 9, 1972 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Whiting, Iowa with the Rev Richard Lankford officiating. Organ selections were played by Mrs Nancy Linden. Casket bearers were Leland Allen, Otis Peterson, Elvin Mander, Ervin Mander, Arnold Brenden and Adair Haehlar. Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements were by Wood Funeral Home in Whiting.
