George Franklin Lawson, 44, Whiting, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 26, 1972 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa. Death came from complications caused by a car accident some months ago in which he received severe injuries.

He was born at Castana, Iowa on July 6, 1927, the son od Alexander and Mary Broughton Lawson and has spent his lifetime in this area. He served his country in the Navy during World War II.

On June 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Cleta Everson and to this union three daughters were born.

He chose farming as his vocation and followed this work as long as he was able.

A member of the Congregational Church of Whiting, he was also a member of Weston Lodge, No 562, A.F. & A.M. of Whiting; the Sioux City Consistory; the 32nd degree Scottish Rite Body and AbuBekr Shrine. He had been a member of Emery Johnson Post No 481, American Legion of Whiting for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Cleta of Whiting; three daughters, Angela, Deanna and Susan of Whiting and his mother, Mrs Lena Johnson, also of Whiting. There are a number of other relatives and many friends.

The funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 29th at the First Congregational Church, UCC in Whiting. Rev Thomas L Guenther officiated. Mrs Carl Linden was the organist. Casket bearers were LeRoy Baker, Vernon Orr, Bertal McCandless, LaVerne Simpson, Don Richardson and Jack Wilhelmy. Members of the American Legion Post attended in a group and flag presentation was by G.M. Brown. Robert Bearce acting Commander. Masonic Graveside services were conducted by Weston Lodge with Jewell Waugh serving asd Orator. Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home.
