Russell Severson Called To Rest

Russell J Severson, a lifetime resident of the Soldier ands Moorhead area, passed away Saturday, January 15 at the age of 51 years, 5 months and 15 days, Death came at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Tuesday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Arnold Mathison officiating. Mr Magnus Jepson was soloist and sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd” and “Jesus The Very Thought Of Thee” Mrs Magnus Jepson was organist.

Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery at Soldier under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Graveside services were conducted by Peter A Hansen Post No. 365, American Legion, of Moorhead of which Loyle Kratz is commander And Dale Welliver Chaplin.
Pallbearers were Glen Thoreson, Maynard Harris, James Severson, Darrell Wessell, Wilbur Skow and Robert Thoreson.

Russell was born in Spring Valley Township, the son of Guy and Mida Millard Severson, on July 30, 1920. He had lived on the farm near Moorhead all his life except for a time when he served in the US Army.

He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church, Elk Lodge No.586, A.F.& A.M. of Moorhead and Peter A Hansen Post No. 365, American Legion of Moorhead. He was a farmer by occupation.
Survivors include his parents, Mr and Mrs Guy Severson; two brothers, Ronald of LeMars and Raymond of Moorhead and a number of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen.
