Johnnie C Norby, a lifetime resident of the Soldier, Iowa community, passed away at the Burgess Memorial Hospital Friday Dec 25, 1971. Death came at the age of 79 years 4 months and 20 days.

He was born at Sioux City, Iowa on August 5, 1892 and had farmed in the Soldier area most of his adult life. He was a member of the Armed Forces during World War I.

On March 15, 1933 he was united in marriage to Clara Johnson at Elk Point, S.D.. To this union one son, Clark Norman Norby was born and died in infancy.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Country Church and was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church. He also held membership in the Soldier Valley Post No. 462 American Legion.
Survivors are his wife, Clara and a number of cousins.

Services were held at the Soldier Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 1971 with Pastor Irvin Lovseth officiating. Mrs. Charles Dommer Jr sang, “In The Garden” and “Beyond The Sunset,” accompanied by Mrs Harry Andersen. Bearers were Bernard Thoreson, Bryce Lee, Gordon Clemon, Stanley Frydenlund, Freddie Briggs and Milton Amunson. Graveside military rites were given by members of Soldier Valley Post No. 462, Soldier, Jerry Blume commander. Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
