Peter "Jiggs" Funkhouser, 80, Onawa, Iowa died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Elmwood Care Center, Onawa, Iowa.

Peter was born November 30, 1926 at Whiting, Iowa, the son of Peter and Pearl (Huntley) Funkhouser. He was raised in rural Whiting and attended Maple Landing Country School. He married Ruth Ann Cummins December 6, 1952. The couple lived in Onawa where they raised their family. Ruth passed December 7, 1988.

He joined the United States Army November 1945 and served in the infantry in Germany during World War II. Later during the Korean War he was in Japan where he received a Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge and Purple Heart. He was discharged May, 1952. His time serving his country was always very dear to his heart and he stayed in contact with many of fellow veterans throughout his life. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Monona County Post #2694.

Peter was a truck driver and was employed 10 years with King Trucking and also many years with Clark Ready Mix.

Survivors include two sons, Kelly and Dean and his wife, Lisa; two daughters, Tina and her husband Mark Riley and June DeLashmutt all of Onawa; seven grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lil and her husband Jack Conyers and Mary King all of Onawa.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Tony and Peter "Andy"; 5 brothers, Elliott, Edward, Donald, James and Marvin and a sister, Betty Fowler.

Grave side services were Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Onawa Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army and Monona County VFW Post #2694.
