Clifford "Lyle" Johnson, 87, of Pendleton, OR, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at Willowbrook Terrace.

The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18 at Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton. A celebration of life gathering and luncheon reception was held at the church after the service. Cremation is being held later and the family will transport the remains to Iowa for interment at St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, IA.

Mr. Johnson was born January 11, 1917 at Moorhead, Iowa to Carl Gustav and Luella Gertrude Burke Johnson. He grew up at Soldier, Iowa, and attended a rural country school.

On February 1, 1940, he married Helen Marie Neumann at Charter Oak, Iowa. Mr. Johnson farmed in Iowa before moving to Pendleton in 1970. He was employed at Harris Pine Mills in Pendleton until his retirement in 1982.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed playing the guitar in a musical group and entertained at nursing homes. He loved playing horseshoes, watching soap operas and traveling annually to Iowa.

He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnson, at the home; a son, Francis Johnson of Yankton, SD; a daughter, Kathleen Roff of Gleneden Beach, OR; a sister, Violet Ulmer of Dunlap, IA; three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie Lou; and a brother, Vernon.
