Died at her home, June 6, 2005

Naomi L. Kruse, age 69, of Mapleton, Iowa died Monday, June 6, 2005 at her home following a courageous battle with ALS.

Services were held Friday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa with the church pastor, Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Norma Jean Dose was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", and "Rock of Ages". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Naomi Lee Kruse grew up in Anniston, Alabama, the daughter of Howard and Viva (Hudgens) Cherry. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Alabama. She worked at a local hospital until she met Howard Kruse from Mapleton, Iowa, and married him on February 7, 1958. They returned to Mapleton where they resided on the family farm for 43 years until they moved into Mapleton five years ago. Naomi worked for over 30 years in several local hospitals as a Medical Records Technician, until retiring in 2002.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. Naomi enjoyed reading, traveling, and camping with her friends and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Howard; a son, David, of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Sandy Anderson and her husband, Scott and two grandchildren, Ben and Sam of Onawa, Iowa; a sister, Martha Shulman of Anniston, Alabama; a brother, Kenneth, of Tennessee; a brother, Howard, of Jacksonville, Alabama; and nieces and nephews throughout the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Mark.

Memorials may be directed to the Hospice Program and the Mapleton Library.

Pallbearers were Mike Kruse, Greg Wilkens, Rick Hamman, Wayne Hamman, Hans Hoffmeier and Rick Wendt.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
