Eldon E. "Stick" Waples, age 91 of Castana, Iowa, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 in Mapleton.

Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5 at the Castana Community Church in Castana with Pastor Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Following the memorial service a Masonic Service was held by Vesper Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M. Burial was in the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana with military graveside honors by the American Legion Grimsley-Thayer Post #502 of Castana. Benita Davis was the organist for the service and Nancy Hanson, soloist, sang, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "In The Garden".

Eldon Earl "Stick" Waples was born June 28, 1914, at Castana, Iowa, the son of William Henry Waples, Jr. and Nora (Livengood) Waples. He graduated from Castana High School with the class of 1932 and remained a lifelong resident of that community. He was married to Nadene Johnson in June of 1942 for a period of 37 years. Stick was self employed working as a truck driver and in construction.

He was a 60 year member of the American Legion Grimsley-Thayer Post #502 of Castana and the Masonic Temple Vesper Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include two daughters, and their husbands, Mickey and Michael Levich of Sioux City, Iowa and Patricia and Leonard Moseley of Cedar Hill, Texas; two sons and their wives, Daniel and Sue Waples of Muncie, Indiana and Steve and Donita Waples of Middletown, Iowa; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and many good friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Claire Waples and three sisters, Beulah Waples, Violet Waples, and Hazel Hawthorne.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
