Esther A. Hennings, age 92 of Ute, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Ed Brandt officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Eileen Brandt was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "Now Thank We All Our God", "Be Still My Soul", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Abide With Me". A scripture service was held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Esther Amanda Louise Hennings was born December 17, 1912, two miles west of Ricketts, Iowa, the daughter of August and Ida (Henning) Meseck. She was baptized by Rev. Grief at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township in January 1913 and confirmed in 1926. She grew up and received her education in the Ricketts and Charter Oak areas. On November 17, 1932, Esther was united in marriage to Harvey Hennings at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township. The couple farmed in the Ricketts area until 1937 when they moved and began farming in the Ute area, retiring in 1971 and moving into Ute. Harvey passed away May 12, 1979. Esther entered the nursing home on November 15, 2004.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, having also been a member of the Lamp Lighters and Friends of the Library, both for many years. Esther loved to sew, make quilts, crochet and knit. She also found pleasure in her flower garden, playing cards with family and friends, polka dances, and "circle the word" puzzles.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Esther include two daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Darrell Barnett of Soldier, Iowa and Cinda and Ron Rude of Mapleton, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Deryl and Joan Hennings of Ute, Iowa and Warren and Eileen Hennings of Charter Oak, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one sister, Erma Ockenga of Nevada, Iowa.

Along with her husband, Esther was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Keith Hennings, JoDee Hennings, and Mike Barnett; two brothers, and two sisters.

Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Jane Ohlmeier, Julie Nower, Mary LaFave, Sara Purcell and Kristi Christensen.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Tim Hennings, Brian Hennings, John Hennings, Andrew Hennings, Eric Hennings, Kevin Hennings and Scott Rude.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute.
