Clifford A. Longlee, 86, Onawa, Iowa, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa.

Clifford was born September 27, 1919 at Castana, Iowa, the son of Christian and Matilda (Casperson) Longlee. He was raised in the Castana area and graduated from Castana High School in 1937.

He joined the United States Army February 7, 1942 and served during World War II. He was a heavy machine gunner in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and fought in the India-Burma campaign. He received his honorable discharge October 4, 1945.

After Clifford's discharge, he returned to Castana where he was baptized and confirmed. He also was a member of Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post #502 and had received a 50 year plaque.

Survivors include two sisters, Esther Kuhlmann of Onawa and Helen Lord (Everett, Sr.) of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Donna Longlee of Castana; a brother-in-law, Don Lane of Sioux City; nieces and nephews, Janet Baagoe (Bill), Judy Glassburner (Bob), Everett Hord, Jr. "Gus", Carole Kress (John), Ronald Kuhlmann (Trudy), Norman Kuhlmann (Judy), Dennis Kuhlmann (Linda), Doug Kuhlmann (Cindy), Jim Lane (Debbie), Susan Lee (Brian), Steve Longlee (Marilyn), Dale Longlee, Linda Nielsen (Delmar), Debbie Speidel (Dave) and Lynne McBride (Phil) and many neighbors and friends, especially Denise and Darrell Messenbrink who were always a helping hand to Clifford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Melvin, Harold and Carl and three sisters, Mary Knutson, Maxine Thoreson and Lillian Lane.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2005 at Soldier Lutheran Church at Soldier, Iowa with Pastor Meggan Manlove officiating. Music selections were the congregation singing, "How Great Thou Art" and a solo "On Eagle's Wings" rendered by Becky Marcum. Burial was in Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post #502. Visitation was 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.

Casket bearers were Ron, Norm, Denny and Doug Kuhlmann, Steve and Dale Longlee, Gus Hord and James Lane.
