Marcella E Castle, age 85 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Saturday, December 24, 2005 in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. A rosary by St. Mary's Guild was held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27 and a Vigil Wake Service was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton.

Marcella Elizabeth Castle was born June 4, 1920, at Missouri Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Elijah and Gertrude (Shanahan) Tidd. She grew up and received her initial education at Missouri Valley. At the age of 14, she moved to the Mapleton area, living with relatives. On June 3, 1941, Marcella was united in marriage to George William Castle, Jr. The couple made their home and raised their two sons at Mapleton. George died September 23, 1997.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton along with St. Mary's Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Loren Hollister Unit #496 of Mapleton.

Survivors include one son, Don Castle and his wife, Donna, of Mapleton; one daughter-in-law, Barb Castle of Mapleton; eight grandchildren, Tammy Flanigan and her husband, Mike, Terri Tusha and her husband, Tom, Holly Brezina and her husband, Tim, Bill Castle and his wife, Kathy, Travis Castle and his wife, Lori, Ryan Castle and his wife, Lora, Kim Dancso, and Mandy Allen and her husband, Brian; and 20 great grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Marcella was preceded in death by one son, Bill, one brother and one sister.

Pallbearers were Bill Castle, Travis Castle, Ryan Castle, Tom Tusha, Mike Flanigan and Tim Brezina.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
