Nadine M. Uhl, age 85 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Sioux City, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 13 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev. Terry Roder, celebrant and Rev. Raymond Wieling, concelebrant officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. Bonita Kane was the organist for the service and Julie Hamann was the vocalist. Music was "How Great Thou Art", "On Eagles Wings", "Ave Maria" and "Let There Be Peace On Earth". Sunday, February 12, a rosary by St. Mary's Guild was held at 3:30 p.m. and a Vigil Wake Service was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Nadine Marie Uhl was born July 23, 1920, the daughter of Emil and Othelia (Nielsen) Scheer of Mapleton, Iowa. She graduated from Mapleton High School. She was united in marriage to Alfred J. Uhl on November 21, 1939 and celebrated 66 years together last fall. Nadine and Alfred rented a farm northwest of Mapleton until purchasing their own farm east of Mapleton in 1948. In December of 1990 they retired from farming and moved to their present home in Mapleton.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton and St. Mary's Guild.

Nadine especially enjoyed fancy work with many hours of embroidery, crocheting and quilting. Flowers and gardening occupied most of her outdoor life. Visits from her family and friends were truly enjoyed and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred; two daughters, Burnita Ankerstjerne of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and Linda Otto and her husband, Bob of Mapleton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Rob Ankerstjerne of Salix, Iowa, Suzanne Ankerstjerne of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Lisa Ankerstjerne of Ames, Iowa, Melissa Kruse and her husband, Troy, of Ida Grove, Iowa and Rebecca Otto and her fiance, Nicholas Engdahl of Kasson, Minnesota; two great granddaughters, Lindsey and Mahala Kruse of Ida Grove; a brother and his wife, Delmond and Mary Scheer of Mapleton; a sister-in-law, Helen Weber and her husband, Leo of Mapleton; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Leo and Martha Uhl of Danbury and Charles and Irene Uhl of Ida Grove, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Georgia Scheer of Mapleton; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leonard and Donald Scheer and a son-in-law, Robert Ankerstjerne.

Pallbearers were Rob Ankerstjerne, Dick Schleis, Darrell Scott, Mark Weber, Daryl Scheer and Vernon Thies.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
