John Flammang
March 3, 1938-March 14, 2006

John R. Flammang, age 68 of Blencoe, Iowa, and formerly of Mapleton died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in Whiting, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 17 at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa with Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. Music included "How Great Thou Art", " On Eagles Wings" and "Amazing Grace". A Vigil Wake Service was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

John Robert Flammang was born March 3, 1938 in Mapleton, Iowa to John and Marie (Thomas) Flammang. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Mapleton and farmed with his father until he was 17. He moved to Blencoe at 17 and worked on a farm there for the next 30 years. He also worked for two years at Western Iowa Cooperative in Blencoe and then at Westendorf Manufacturing Company in Onawa, Iowa, retiring in 2002.

John loved to barbecue and cook for his friends, family and various gatherings and organizations. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and raising rabbits along with working and tinkering around in his shop.

John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Blencoe, the Knights of Columbus, and the Iowa Army National Guard.

John is survived by five brothers and their wives, Don (Carolyn) Flammang of Danbury, Iowa, Ron (Pat) Flammang of Waldport, Oregon, Jim (Vickie) Flammang of Bend, Oregon, Larry (Vickie) Flammang of Mapleton, Iowa and Gary (Cindy) Flammang of Smithland, Iowa; four sisters, Delores (Dennis) Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carol (Walt) Cruz of Omaha, Nebraska, Connie Irish of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Nancy (Tom) DeLance of Mapleton, Iowa; 12 nephews; 10 nieces; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents.

Pallbearers were Mike Johnson, Mike Cruz, Matt Cruz, Eric Flammang, Jacob Flammang, Shannon Irish, Tyler DeLance and Dave Flammang.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home
