George E. Hinrickson, age 83 of Mapleton died Friday, May 5, 2006 at Sioux City, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial was in Center Cemetery, Castana with military graveside honors by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. Music for the service was by Karen Krusen, organist and the congregation singing, "Just As I Am" and "How Great Thou Art". "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was also played. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

George Eddie Hinrickson was born March 7, 1923, at Schaller, Iowa, the son of John and August (Dadt) Hinrickson. He moved with his family to Rodney, Iowa. He worked for Haubrich Construction before and after he served his country in the United Sates Army during World War II.

At high noon on June 14, 1949, George married Darlyne Howland in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple lived in Mapleton until 1973 when they moved to their acreage near Mapleton. George worked as a block layer for United Builders and later for Midwest Industries for over 20 years, both in Ida Grove, Iowa. Darlyne died November 24, 2001.

George was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton and the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Hinrickson of Omaha, Nebraska; three sons, Roger Hinrickson and his wife, Chana of Smithland, Iowa, Duane Hinrickson of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Alan Hinrickson and his wife, Nita of Pocahontas, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Noelle Kunkel, Heather Dohrman, Misti, Cari, Rustin, Ben, Jennifer, Alicia, and Jacob Hinrickson; and 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Jane Meyer of Paullina, Iowa: three brothers, William of Chicago, Illinois, Albert of Ida Grove, Iowa and Richard of Rodney, Iowa; along with numerous other relatives.

Along with his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents, and eight siblings, Leslie, Doris, John, Clyde, Louie, Gertie, Charlie, and David.

Pallbearers were Rustin Hinrickson, Doug Hinrickson, Charlie Hinrickson, Steve Howland, Walter Morgan and Doug Seils.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
