Evelyn A. Horner, age 87 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 26 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial was in Grant Cemetery, Rodney, Iowa. Norma Jean Dose was the organist for the service. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Evelyn Arlene Horner, the former Evelyn Worrell was born November 9, 1918, at Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Abbie (Madson) Worrell. She grew up and was educated in the Salix and Smithland, area.

She married W. Merritt Horner on October 28, 1938. They farmed in the Smithland, Rodney, and Mapleton area until his death in 1967. Evelyn made her home in Mapleton

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. Evelyn was an avid gardener and also loved to bake and spend time entertaining her friends.

Survivors include one son, Raymond Horner and his wife, Karen, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; five grandchildren, Mrs. Chris (Shelly) Johnson of Brentwood, Tennessee and children, Bo, Mackenzie and Drew, Mrs. Dan (Kathy) Little of Gulf Breeze, Florida and son, Nick, Jeff and Laurie Horner of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota and children, Ean and Abbie, Mrs. Billy (Debbie) Briscoe of Glocester, Virginia and children, Garrett, Sam and Avery, and Kim Schmidt and friend, Tony Dimig of Sioux City, Iowa and children, Marissa, Maya and Blaise Schmidt; a sister-in-law, Molly Worrell of Smithland, Iowa and a brother-in-law, Robert Bueoy of Onawa, Iowa.

Along with her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Donald, a great grandson, Jacob Ryan Johnson. three brothers, Arthur. Pete and Clifford, and a sister, Margaret Bueoy.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
