Lois P. Jensen, age 102 of Mapleton, Iowa and formerly of Ute, died Monday, February 9, 2004 in Mapleton.
Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13 at the Ute Christian Church with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Joyce Hansen was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden". A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Lois Phoebe Jensen was born near Mapleton, Iowa on January 16, 1902, the daughter of Alfred John and Kate (Goodall) Ridley. She married Chris Jensen on February 22, 1921. They had two children, a son, Lavern, and a daughter, Lavera. They farmed west of Ute. Chris died January 7, 1967.

At the age of 17, Lois painted pictures and gave them to her relatives and friends. She also made and sold lots of craft items in her lifetime and was featured by Channel 9 TV in Sioux City in 1978 for her talent with her creations. She was a member of the Ute Christian Church and the Christian Ladies Aide. She played the piano and organ at the Christian Church for over 30 years.

Survivors include her son, Lavern Jensen and his wife, Marge, of Sioux City, Iowa and her daughter, Lavera Jacobson, of Mapleton, Iowa. She had three grandchildren, Jay Jensen of Bettendorf, Iowa, Linda and her husband, Ronald W. Caldwell, Jr. of Golden, Colorado, and Philip Jacobson of Andover, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren, Camie and her husband, Mark Knollenberg of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, Nick, Rain, Shera, and Kade Jensen of Bettendorf, Iowa, Kenton and Darin Jacobson of Mapleton, Iowa, and Shaun Billmeier of Carroll, Iowa, and three great-great-grandchildren, Ali and Mitchell Knollenberg and Autumn Jensen.

Along with her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Elton Ridley, and a son-in-law, Dale Jacobson.

A memorial has been established in her name for the Ute Christian Church.

Pallbearers were Kenton Jacobson, Lyle Bramley, Darin Jacobson, Don Seufert, Nick Jensen and Daryl Hennings.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
