James Leonard "Jim" Davis, 55, Onawa, Iowa, died unexpectedly Friday, January 30, 2004 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a donor to the Iowa Donor Network.
In celebrating of Jim's life, a memorial graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Onawa Cemetery with Pastor John Noer officiating. Immediately following, lunch will be served at the Blue Lake Shelter House at Lewis and Clark State Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Jim was born July 21, 1948 in Denison, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Lorraine (Bartel) Davis. He graduated from West Monona High School in Onawa. He later graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.

After his formal education, he worked for many years for Jack and Dick Tainter of Sioux City in the wholesale business. The past number of years, he traveled for Corporate Express and Velocity Express as a courier and truly enjoyed his work and the many business associates. His philosophy was one of honesty and trustworthiness. He was never late to work and many times was an hour early. Jim was so happy with his work and truly cherished and loved his many friends he met daily.

He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, NRA, C.A.F. of Midland, Texas and a member of the local Pheasants Forever. He was a Boy Scout in his early years and together with his father and several Onawa Scouts traveled to Philmont, New Mexico on a Scouting trip. Jim enjoyed the out of doors and weekly was seen at the Lewis and Clark State Park at Blue Lake.

Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Davis of Onawa; two aunts, Carolyn Deckar of Rockford, Illinois and Ursula Bartel of LaVerne, California; an uncle, Erland McMartin of Claremont, Minnesota and several cousins. He will be missed by his special friend, Bluebelle, his beautiful black lab who was always ready to go hunting with him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard.

Memorials may be directed to Burgess Health Center, Onawa.
