UTE, Iowa -- Henry L. "Hank" Christiansen Jr., 73, of Ute died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Eugene Ernst officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Aaby Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605, both of Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home in Mapleton.

Henry Leo "Hank" Christiansen was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of Henry Christiansen Sr. and Catherine (Brickman) Christiansen. He grew up and was educated in the Charter Oak area, moving to Castana, Iowa, in 1942. He farmed in the Castana area until Dec. 28, 1950, when he entered the U.S. Navy. He served his country until Oct. 15, 1954, during the Korean Conflict.

After his honorable discharge, he returned home and was united in marriage to Darlene Hopkins on Aug. 21, 1955, in Ute. The couple lived in Mapleton for a time but resided in Ute most of their married life. He worked for H & I Grain in South Sioux City, Graves Construction, drove a mail truck for a couple of years and worked at Barnett Machinery and Auction.

He was a member of the American Legion Aaby Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5606. He enjoyed mowing lawns and loved his dog, Lucky. His greatest pleasure was found in his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Darlene; three sons, Henry Christiansen III and Denise of Whiting, Iowa, Allan Christiansen and Chris of Ute and Lorne Christiansen and Brenda of Ute; five grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley, Andrew, Ashton and Aric Christiansen; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Sarah Christiansen of Tucson, Ariz., and Ronald and Connie Christiansen of Turin, Iowa; five sisters, Charlotte Kendall of Toledo, Iowa, Marilyn Wallace of Ida Grove, Iowa, Edna Jensen of Castana, Iowa, June and her husband, Vergene Samuelson of Miland, Ill., and Carman and her husband, Dwight Lamb of Onawa, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Francis Berning of Carroll, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Amanda Christiansen; a sister, Doris Berning; a brother, Charles Christiansen; and four brothers-in-law, Jim Wallace, Mike Otto, Robert Jensen and Leo Kendall.

Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Barnett, Tony Getz, Brittany Christiansen, Ashley Christiansen, Andrew Christiansen, Aston Christiansen and Aric Christiansen

Pallbearers were Butch Neddermeyer, Butch Bridgeman, Delbert Olson, Clyde Brenner, Leonard Seieroe and Buddy Leisinger
