Glenn Edgington, age 89, of Mapleton died Wednesday, January 6, 1999 in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 9 at St John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Pastor Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Marie Whiteing was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and ' The Old Rugged Cross". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton.

Glenn Edgington was born December 16, 1909 in rural Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Harlan and Clara (Taylor) Edgington. He graduated with the Mapleton High School Class of 1928. On March 27, 1932, he was united in marriage to Roberta Burns at Holly Springs, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed east of Mapleton. During this time, Glenn also worked as a substitute mail carrier. After retiring from farming, they remained on the farm and Glenn worked as a mechanic for Hank Bush. In 1975, the couple moved into Mapleton.

Glenn was a member of St John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Mapleton Camping Club for over 20 years. Glenn and his wife wintered for eight years in Texas and Arizona.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include Roberta, his wife of 66 years;one brother and his wife, Byron and Florence Edgington of Mapleton, along with nieces, nephews, neighbors and good friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruby and three brother-in-law, Bob, Clyde and Harry.

Pallbearers were Frank Edgington, Norman Peterson, Vernon Thies, Keith Robinson, Bruce Tevis and Irven Walter.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
