Ella M McClatchey, age 95 of Manilla and formely of Mapleton died Monday, August 9, 1999 at the Manilla Manor Nursing Home.

Services were held 12:30 p.m. Friday, August 13 at the United Church of Manilla, Manilla, Iowa with Pastor Brian Sherman officiating. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery, Rodney, Iowa. Ruth Ann Barry was the organist; and Milton Barry was the volcalist. Music was "How Great Thou Art" and "Hymn of Promise". Visitation was held after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla.

Ella Margaret, daughter of Thomas and Carolina Hass Lorenzen was born August 18, 1903, on a farm near Mapleton in Monona County, Iowa. After several years Ella moved with her family to a farm near Castana where she attended rural schools. After her schooling she helped in the fields, babysat and did housework for neighbors.

On December 5, 1923, Ella was united in marriage with John Gilman McClatchey at the Methodist Church in Sioux City. Nine children were born to this union. John worked for the Milwaukee Railroad at Grant Center for 43 years and Ella was a homemaker. They moved to Manilla in 1934. Ella and John celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on December 5, 1973. John died on July 12, 1980. Ella remained in her home until 1984 when she moved to the Manilla Apratments. In 1998 Ella became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home.

Ella was a member of the United Methodist Church. United Methodist Women and the American Legion Auxillary. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, card playing and tatting.

Besides her husband, Ella was preceded in death by her parents and children; Ronald Dean McClatchey as a young child, Annabel Myhre; Carl J McClatchey; Earl F McClatchey; two grandchildren; Russell Bandow and Roberta Bandow; two great-grandchildren; Kelly Bandow and Jennifer Bandow; brothers and sisters; Earl and Carolina Lorenzen of the flu as youngsters; Arnold Lorenzen; Alvina Noethlich; Otto Lorenzen; Anna McClatchey; and Irvea Lorenzen.

Ella is survived by five children, Sylvia and her husband. Alvin Bandow of Manilla, Iowa: Gail McClatchey and his wife, Pat of Banning, California; Karen and her husband, George Jahn of Gretna, Nebraska; Shirley and her husband, Richard Hansen of Irwin, Iowa; Linda and her husband, Ron Olson of DeWitt, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Lutes of Marshalltown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Honorary casketbearers were Ella's grandaughters.

Casketbearers were Randy Bandow, Ron Bandow, Jim McClatchey, Rick Hanson, Daryl Jahn, Troy Olson, Rich Myhre, Joe Doyle, Jack Doyle, Jeff Doyle, James McClatchey and John McClatchey.
