Floy Lella Larson, age 100, of Castana died Thursday, August 12, 1999, at her residence, rural Castana.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 16 at the Ticonic United Methodist Church, Ticonic, Iowa, with Rev Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Rodney, Iowa. Marie Whiteing was the pianoist for the service and the congregation sang, "God Will Take Care of You" and "Precious Lord Take My Hands". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton.

Floy Lella Larson was born September 16, 1898, the daughter of Jasper Charles York and Nancy Catherine Palmer near Castana, Iowa.

When Lella was 8 years old, in 1906, they homesteaded to Colorado, where they lived in a one-room cabin. Lella rode a horse to country school in which grades 1-8 attended. In 1914 they moved back to Iowa to Soldier. She finished her schooling in Soldier. They also lived in the Charter Oak and Ute area. They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and Lella enrolled in the Academy at Cotner College in Lincoln. She married Charlie Larson on July 25, 1925 in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1938 they moved to a farm east of Castana, Iowa and farmed in the Ticonic area all their life. Charlie died January 26, 1985. Lella remained on an acreage near the farm until her death.

She was a member of the Ticonic United Methodist Church in Ticonic, the UMW and the Erskine Women's Club.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include one son and his wife, Melvin and Joyce Larson of Upsala, Minnesota; three daughters, Eileen and her husband, Boyd Henry of Caldwell, Idaho, Evelyn and her husband, John St Peter of Sioux City, Iowa and Melva Wanamaker of Decatur, Nebraska; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Larson of Castana; 19 grandchildren ; 45 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Darrell; two sisters, one brother and one granddaughter.

Honorary pallbearers were Trudy Berry, Nancy Rasmussen, Ross Larson, Terry Wanamaker, Beverly Thompson, Lisa Jones and Paula Kluver.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Bradley Larson, Scott Larson. Wesley Wanamaker, Larry Wanamaker, Louis Reed and Bruce Reed.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
