Anna M Skow, age 96, of Hornick, died Thursday, January 8, 1998, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa

Services were held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton with Pastor Shirley Texler and Pastor Louis Altken officiating. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery, Rodney. Marilyn Longlee was the organist for the service and Dawn Claus and Wendy Johnston sang a vocal duet. Congregational singing was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."

Anna Margaret Skow was born January 9, 1901, at Hjorring, Denmark, the daughter of Nels Peter and Ansine (Madsen) Jensen. In August of 1920 she left her home country and journeyed to the United States. She then worked on area farms in the Whiting, Iowa area where she learned about the American lifestyle and cooking.

On February 28, 1921 she was united to Elmer Skow in Onawa, Iowa. Their first year of marriage, they lived in Homer, Nebraska. For the next 76 years, they lived in Monona County with a Hornick address. Her beloved husband died 2 November 1967.

Anna was very proud of her Danish heritage, having been confirmed in the Danish Lutheran faith and continued to say her prayers in her native language. She made several trips back to her homeland. Two sisters and three brothers of Anna also came to live in the United States.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Carrie Johnston of Smithland, Iowa; two sons, Glen and his wife Dorothy of Hornick, Iowa and John, who lived with his mother at Hornick, IOwa; one sister, Inger Johannsen of Denmark; one sister-in-law, Hilda Hansen of Sioux City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Margaret Ann Maynard, Melvin Johnston, Earl Johnston, Dawn Claus, Carol Luber, Joe Skow and Marilyn Longlee; 18 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, along with other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Pallbearers were Joe Skow, Mark Maynard, John E Maynard, Melvin Johnston, Earl Johnston and Steve Longlee.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the armstrong Funeral Home of Malpeton.
