Dale Melvin Hanks, 55, Sioux City, Iowa, died suddenly Sunday, January 11, 1981 at a Sioux City Hospital.

He was born October 3, 1925 near Merrill, Iowa to Monroe and Rachel Little Hanks. He lived and attended schools in Ida Grove. Later he moved to Ute where he farmed with his parents. On February 28, 1946 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Ingram at Onawa, Iowa. They had lived in Woodbury County for 16 years and in Sioux City the last five years, where he had worked at American Pop Corn Company for 10 years at the time of his death.

Survivors include his widow, Dorothy; three sons, Donald D, Sioux City, Ronald, Hornick, Iowa and Lyle D, Hinton, Iowa; three daughters, Miss Sharon and Mrs Steve (Joyce) Mead, both of Sioux City and Mrs Randall (Sandra) Grasz, Merrill; his mother, Mrs Rachel Hanks, Onawa; seven brothers, Wayne and Gilbert, both of Oregon, James, Mondamin, Iowa, Louis, Sloan, Iowa, Earl, Quimby, Iowa and Walter and Jerry both of Onawa; three sisters, Mrs Wyman (Dolise) Chasteen, Mrs Rosella Chasteen and Mrs William (Etta) Chasteen all of Oregon and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services were held at 1:00 p,m. on Wednesday, January 14, 1981, at the United Church of Christ, Rodney, Iowa with Rev Dale Church officiating. The organist, Mrs Katherine Cox, accompanied the soloist, Mrs Leonard Lund, who sang the selections "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art."

Bearers were James Davis, Leonard Vaught, Max Smith, James Cleveland, Lowell Aldrich and Frank Burkhart.

Interment was in Grant Township Cemetery.
