Edward Clarence Kelly, 72, of Smithland was killed in a car-truck accident July 6, 1980, one mile south of Rodney, Iowa.

He was born October 29, 1907 at Blencoe, Iowa to Fredrick and Lizzy Feige Kelly. On October 3, 1940 he was united in marriage to Ellen Stanton at Harlan, Iowa. He was a farmer and had lived in Smithland for 36 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Smithland, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Ellen, two sons, Howard Stanton of Canyon Lake, California and James Stanton of Manteca, California; one daughter, JoAnn Haptonstallof Denison, Iowa; one brother, George Kelly of Smithland; two sisters, Mrs Margaret Lantz of Woodbine, IOwa and Mrs Mary Andersen of Independance, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren and 30 foster children.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 1980 at the United Methodist Church in Smithland, Iowa with Rev Dale Church officiating. The organist was Harriet Hackett and the soloist was Myron Armour.

Casketbearers were Lawrence Crawford, Gene Kelsey, Willie Uhl, Neal Swearingen, Saul Mitchell and Don Drenkhalm.

Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery, Turnin, Iowa.
