Donald LaVern Coleman, Sr., 50, of Denison, Iowa, formely of Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, November 15, 1997, at his home.

Mr Coleman was born on March 10, 1947, at Dunlap, Iowa, the son of Glen and Florence (South) Coleman. He served four tours in the U.S. Army in Vietnam where he was a chief, M.P. door gunner and crew chief. Prior to his illness he was an executive chief at Casino Omaha near Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Denison; four daughters, Melissa, Tabatha and Samantha, all of Denison and Sabrenia and her friend, Todd Hall of Independance, Iowa; three sons, Donie Lorne Coleman of Onawa, Guy Dean COleman of Mapleton, and Donald Jr of Denison; two granddaughters, Amanda and Stephanie; his mother, Florence Riley of Onawa; one brother and his wife, Norman and Mary Coleman of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Judy Riley of Bellevue, Nebraska and Glennda Englegau of Onawa; one half brother, Larry and his wife, Vicki Riley of Whiting; one half sister, Lisa Koch of North Platte, Nebraska and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Danease; his father, Glen; his step father, Alva Riley and his grandparents.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 1997, at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Donald R Ludwick officiating. The organist was Mrs Vince Phillips and the soloist, Mr Kenneth South, sang the selections, "The Old Rugged Cross", "In The Garden" and "Amazing Grace".

Honorary bearers were Ed Gray, David Cue, John McMullen, John Riley and Leo Riley.

Casketbearers were Matthew Riley, John Riley, Eric Riley, Clinton Ham, Travis Gray and Jason South.

Interment was in Grant Township Cemetery, Ticonic, Iowa with military graveside rites by Monona County Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post #2694. Onawa, Iowa, with Gordon Conway, Commander.

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa
