Everett S. Custer

Everett S. Custer, 82, of Sioux City died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in Sioux City.

There will be no services or
visitation. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery, Rodney, Iowa, at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Custer was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Earl and Bessie (Belden) Custer. He attended country school. He moved to Anthon, Iowa, where he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to Clarinda, Iowa. He joined the National Guard.

He married Arline Smith on Sept. 24, 1938, in Maryville, Mo. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. He was also a driver for the brigadier general at Fort Sill, Okla.

They moved to Denison, Texas, in 1939 and to Sioux City in 1944. He was employed as a laborer in the Sioux City area. He was then employed with the City of Sioux City for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Rex and Patty Lee Custer of Sioux City; two sisters, Donna Belle and her husband, Gerald Haden of Chicago and Mildred Anderson of Marine, Ill.; and two grandsons, Dustin and Seth Custer.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Belden, Lester and Darrell; and two sisters, Ona Mae Schuldt and Lavonne Wingert.
