Eugene L Sexton, 80, Onawa, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 25, 1997 at Burgess Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 4, 1916 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Lafayette and Josie (Swenson) Sexton. He was baptized in the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Soldier, Iowa, on January 28, 1917, by pastor H.K. Sunner and confirmed in the Soldier Valley Lutheran Church on October 19, 1930, by Pastor Johannes Hoyfield. He graduated from Soldier High School in 1934. He farmed near Soldier for 50 years. He married Nellie on May 29, 1971, in her daughter's home in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple moved to Onawa, May 5, 1975. Eugene had resided at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting the past three years.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie, of Onawa; two stepsons and their wives, Earl and Katherine Larson of Sioux City and Robert and Pat Larson of Onawa; one stepdaughter and her husband, Beberly and Kenneth Conner of Correctionville, Iowa; six step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 1997, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with Rev Steven C Hetzel officiating. The organist was Mrs Odilo Ahlers. The vocalist, Mr Gordon Foss was accompanied by Mrs Darly Lauritsen and sang the selections, :How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset".

Honorary bearers were Clayton Swenson, Gordon Swenson, Maynard Swenson, Clifford Swenson, Elvin Heistand and Duane Seaton.

Casket bearers were Jeff Ruby, Richard Heistand, Jeremy Ruby, Kevin Swanson, Gary Gibbs and James Larson.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa with arrangments by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa and Soldier, Iowa.
