Roy Severson was born January 7, 1897 at Soldier, a son of Julius and Bertha Severson. Death came as the result of an auto accident near Jasper, Ala. on Friday, November 12. He had reached the age of 68 years, 10 months and five days.

Roy was a veteran of World War I where he served in the army. He was united in marriage to Grace M Jones at Charter Oak and to this union four children were born, Phillip who died in infancy and Donna, Patricia and James.

Survivors include his wife, Grace; two daughters, Mrs Howard Bebber of Lakeland, Fla and Mrs Frank Vaughn of Birmingham, Ala; a son, James at Soldier; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs Hazel Ibbatson of Benso, Minn, Mrs Ettie Severson of Dunlap and Mrs Edna Klopping of Underwood; a brother, Guy Severson of Moorhead.

Roy had been a resident of the Soldier Community throughout his lifetime, where he had been a successful farmer.

He was always interested in the activities of the community and took an active part whenever able to do so. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Soldier, Elk Lodge No. 586 A F & A M of Moorhead, Moorhead Chapter of O E S the Sioux City Consistory and Abu-Bekr Shrine and the Soldier Post of American Legion No 462. He was president of the board of directors of the Soldier Valley Savings Bank.

The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, at the Lutheran Church in Soldier. Pastor Harry C Sorensen officiated. A quartet, Mrs Wilbur Holtorf, Mrs Norman C Hanson, Stanley Hanson and DeWayne Hanson, sang " Take My Hand Precious Lord", accompanied by Mrs Charles Tommer Jr.

Honorary bearers were Earl Jones, Herbert Holverson, Ralph Oldham, Dwight Gorham, Arnold Britton and Donald Halverson. Active bearers were Guy Harris, Ronald Severson, Raymond Severson, Craig Ludwig, Jon Ludwig and James Pepper.

Members of the American Legion Post of Soldier attended the service in a group and conducted military rites at the cemetery, Lyle Meadows, commander and Vernon Johnson, chaplain.
The Masonic Lodge also conducted a service at the cemetery with Voyle Blackman, W.M. and Ralph Oldham, chaplain. Interment was in the Soldier Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
