ONAWA, Iowa -- Mary Jane (Ping) Shook, 80, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa after a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Onawa with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Interment will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mary Jane Ping was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Whiting, the daughter of Clarence and Wilma (Sisson) Ping.

She married Ival E. Shook on July 12, 1940. From that union, three children were born.

She had resided at Pleasantview Care Centre in Whiting since 1999.

She was an avid reader and loved the Green Bay Packers football team. She was devoted to her children.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas I. and Elaine Shook of Onawa; a daughter, Joan A. Allen of Waite Park, Minn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Stephen L. Ost of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren and spouses, Thomas W. and Melissa Allen of Wichita Kan., Anthony M. "Tony" and Karen Allen of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Joni (Ost) and Matt Karl of Dennison, Minn., David and Sheila Ost of Omaha, and Julee Shook and Lee Kirkpatrick of Onawa; eight great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brittany and Jordyn Allen, Trenton and Garrison Allen, Avery and Olivia Ost, and Austin Kirkpatrick; five brothers and their wives, George and Margaret Ping of Sioux City, Charles and Mary Louise Ping of Onawa, Willard and Jean Ping of Green Valley, Ariz., James Ping of Alhambra, Calif., and Richard and Marlene Ping of Onawa; and a sister-in-law, Margie Ann Ping of Seal Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jeffery Shook; a sister, Louise (Ping) Marchel; and three brothers, Wallace, Leo and Robert Ping.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Allen, Anthony "Tony" Allen, David Ost, Lee Kirkpatrick, David Maule and John Fister.

Honorary pallbearers will be her surviving brothers, George, Charles, Willard, James and Richard Ping.
