Mrs Donald Shook

Castana, Iowa--Mrs Donald (Vera) Shook, 72, died unexpectedly at her home Sunday, July 9, 1989.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Castana Community Church, the Rev Richard Hempenius offifiating.

Burial will be in the Smithland Little Sioux Township Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday afternoon with the family present at the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney.

Mrs Shook, the former Vera Marie Maynard, was born June 13, 1917 at Rodney, to John and Mabel (Gallup) Maynard. She attended the Rodney School and graduated from Mapleton High School. She married Donald Shook Dec 18, 1938, at Onawa, They farmed near Castana and had lived in Castana for 24 years.

Survivors include her husband Donald; two sons, John of Omaha and Don of Jamestown, ND; two daughters, Cheryl Smith of Onawa and Debbie Sadler of Correctionville; 13 grandchildren, JoAnn (Shook) Nichols, Cindy (Shook) DeLanog, Dawn, John and Chelsea Shook, Brian Shook, Mike and Grant Smith and Jaysn, Jerisa, Derek, Devon and Julianna Sadler; four great grandchildren, Courtney and Brittany Nichols, Michael and Bridget DeLanog; three brothers, Leslie of Castana, Paul of Sloan and Melvin of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Deanna, two brothers, Arvin and Leonard and one sister, Eva.
