Mrs William Ernst, 87, died Friday morning at a Sioux City Hospital after a brief illness. She most recently had resided at a Sioux City nursing home.

Mrs Ernst, the former Bertha A West, was born May 9, 1888, at Willapa, Wash. When still a child, she moved to the Rodney and Ticonic, Iowa, area.

She was married Feb 28, 1907, at Mapleton, Iowa. The couple resided at Mapleton until his death in August 1945.

Mrs Ernst moved to Sioux City in 1945. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church,
Survivors include two sons, Orthel Ernst of SIoux City and Levon Ernst of Danbury; four daughters, Mrs Claude (Melretta) Dale of Spokane, Wash, Mrs Fritz (Aloua) Luksan of Merrell, Iowa, Mrs Merle (Luella) Redmond of Sioux City and Mrs Jean (Darlene) Davis of Sioux City; four sisters, Mrs Ernest (Lillian) Hagerton of Smithland, Iowa, Mrs Wilford (Minnie) Forker of Ida Grove, Iowa, Mrs Earl (Amy) Peiffer of Moorhead, Minn and Mrs Peter (Udora) Ernst of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

The body was taken to the Larkin Funeral Home in Morningside.
