Mrs Mary Dora Ernst Died Sept. 29, 1956

Mary Dora, second daughter of Geo. and Anna Hunter, was born in the Albaton vicinity Aug 7, 1869 and passed away on Sept 29, 1956 in a Sioux City Hospital after a long illness. She was 37 years, 1 month and 22 days at time of passing.

She received her education in the rural school of Albaton and grew to womanhood in the same community where she spent her entire life.

In 1888 she was married to John Ernst of Sloan, Iowa. Five children were born to this union, four of whom survive. There are three daughters and one son; Mrs Grace Walpole of Sloan, Mrs Maud Brown of Sioux City, Mrs Catherine Brown of National City, California and Mr George Ernst of Sloan. Survivors also include 15 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Also she leaves two sisters, Mrs Carrie Ernst and Mrs Lottie Bakke and one brother Mr Reuben Hunter, all of Sloan.
Mrs Ernst was a loyal and faithful Christian, humble in her estimate of herself, yet trusting in her Lord and Saviour, who she loved and served so faithfully.

She became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Albaton at its organization. Also a member of the Albaton Missionary Society, being one of its first members at its organization in 1914.

She was a faithful member in each where she served consistantly until her last illness. Her life as a member of the Missionary Society has proved a fruitful ministry, as she spent her last years in reading her bible and studying the lives of the missionaries and praying for them.
Her life of self sacrifice and humble service to God and to others has established a "Living Record" of sacred memories and won for her a crown of life, an experience of Holy Living and a consistant life of prayer has paved stepping stones all along the way.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, October 2nd at the Albaton Wesleyan Methodist Church conducted by the pastor, Rev H F Clark, who spoke from a Text in Dueteromomy 2;7 and also the 27th Psalm. Comfort in song was rendered by Mrs Lloyd Nelson and Mr Larry Nelson, accompanied by Mrs E C Dubois.
