AUGUSTA EMILIE NEE (AMUNDSEN BRITTON
Augusta Emilie Nee (Amundsen) Britton was born June 15, 1885, in Urskog, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.
She same to America in 1903 and settled in Granite Falls, Minnesota where she worked as a seamstress and here she was married to Martin Britton, September 25, 1905, and moved to the Soldier community. To this union three sons and two daughters were born.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and a diligent worker in the Ladies Aid.
In 1929 she and Martin retired from the farm and moved to Soldier. Martin died in 1970.
Augusta entered Maple Heights in Mapleton in 1978 where she was resident until hospitalized a few days before her death. On June 15, 1979, she died in a Sioux City hospital, her 94th birthday.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold of Sun City, California, and George of Martelle, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Helen) Mordhorst of Ute, and Ruby Nelsen of Algonquin, Illinois; 18 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband Martin and son Marvin, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, one grandson and one great grandson.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier with Rev. William Carter officiating. The organist was Mrs. Harry Andersen and the Men’s Quartet sang “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden”.
Bearers were Clarold Britton, George Britton, Robert Britton, Folland Nelsen, Duane Mordhorst, and Jerome Mordhorst.
Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery at Soldier, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
