Soldier, Iowa-- Rita Irene Hadden, 89, of Soldier died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Soldier Lutheran Church with the Rev. Steven Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Rita Irene Holverson was born Feb. 28, 1914 near Soldier, the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle May (McCall) Holverson. She graduated from Soldier High School in 1932 and then attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, where she received a teaching certificate. She taught two years in rural Monona County.

She married James Hadden on Feb. 28, 1934. The couple farmed west of Soldier. Jim passed away March 30, 1983, in Omaha, Neb.

Irene was very active in community affairs and church actiities including Soldier Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau, Soldier Senior Citizen Center and a was charter member of the Jordan Birthday Club.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Harvey and Barbara of Omaha, and Howard and Elaine of LeMars, Iowa:seven grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Rick Bohnhoff, Kimberly and her husband, Brian Valetski, Jeffrey and his wife, Kristy Hadden, Melissa and her husband, Stanley Dubinsky, Melinda Hadden, Troy and his wife, Colette Hadden, and Melanie and her husband, Eric Bretey; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Mae Heck of Soldier, and Betty and her husband Leo Stanislav of Blencoe, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Edna Holverson of Moorhead, Iowa and Barb Blaine of Soldier, and a brother-in-law, DOnald Samson of Sheridan, Wyo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glen and LaVerne Holverson; and a sister, Charlotte Samson.

Memorial may be directed to Soldier Lutheran Church or Soldier First Responders.
