ONAWA, Iowa -- Maria Letticia (English) Eisele, 95, of Onawa died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Onawa Cemetery, with the Rev. John Noer officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Maria was born March 2, 1908 to Wylie and Maude (Pittman) English at their farm home northwest of Onawa. She attended country school and graduated from Onawa High School in 1927.
She married Orville John Eisele on Dec. 8, 1928 at the farm home of Leonard and Celia Miller. The couple farmed and made their home on the same place for 51 years until retiring to Onawa in 1977. Orville died in 1992. Maria moved to Center Heights in 1995 and then to Elmwood Care Centre in March of 2000.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Women's Fellowship, Pilgrim Circle and FOE Ladies Auxiliary. She belonged to several bridge clubs, loved to dance and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Joann of Onawa; a grandson and his wife, Mike and Elaine of Onawa; a granddaughter and her husband, Rhonda and Jaimie Murray of Onawa; two great-grandsons, Rory Eisele of Bremerton, Wash. and Ryan Eisele of Ames, Iowa; two great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Shayla Murray of Onawa; two sisters-in-law, Ruth English of Omaha, Neb. and Doris Eisele of South Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Rogene; an infant son, Ronald; her parents; a sister, Veloy De Witt; and a brother, Vernon English.
