ONAWA, Iowa -- Ethel Jean (Reaves) Bowman, 86, of Onawa passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Chuck Layton officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Glendale, Mo. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ethel Jean was born Dec. 27, 1916, in East Prairie Mo., the daughter of Joseph Walter and Edna Mae (Barrett) Reaves. After high school graduation, she attended business school in St. Louis, Mo., and pursued a secretarial career.
She married Kurt John Thierbach in 1936. She later married Richard Bowman in September 1963. The couple made their home in Missouri. Mr. Bowman passed away July 5, 1974, in Scottsdale, Ariz. She moved to Onawa in 1989.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onawa, Women's Fellowship and Mayflower Circle.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Reta and James Benson of Onawa; two sons and their wives, Ronald Dean and Christine Thierbach of Arlington, Texas, and the Rev. John and Sally Thierbach of Maryville, Tenn.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren Michelle and Curtis Bowden, David and Allie Thierbach, Tammy and Steve Gerth, Jeffrey and Katrina Benson, John and Leanne Benson and Julie and Brent Miller; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Irene Henry of Shell Knob, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Dollye Reaves of Honolulu, Hawaii; and a nephew, Dunham Henry and his daughter of Springfield, Mo.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Marilyn Reaves; and a brother, Joseph Walter Reaves Jr.
