Onawa, Iowa--Eunice Beth Hanks, 87, of Onawa passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onawa, with the Rev. John Noer officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service of Onawa.

Eunice was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Onawa, the only child of Ole and Anna Moen. She graduated from Onawa High School and spent some time at Stephens College in Missouri.

While working in Colorado, she met her future husband, Jack S. Hanks, They were married Oct. 5, 1939. After World War II, they moved back to Onawa with their three children. Jack went into business with his father-in-law, Ole and Harold Moen, at Moen Clothing Co. Upon the death of Harold Moen, he bought Harold's portion of the store and became a full owner of the clothing company, operating it until his death in 1973. She was a homemaker and also helped out at the clothing store with Jack. She also worked at the Morton Building Co. for a brief period after Jack's death.

A member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, she served on numerous boards and committees. She was an active volunteer in the Monona County Historical Museum and other places in the community. A very active person, she was a long time member of Queens Esther Chapter 222 Order of the Eastern Star as well as the Onawa Women's Club, holding many offices in both organization. PLaying bridge was a great hobby of hers. She loved visiting and helping her many friends all over Onawa. Of special joy to her were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services include her children and their spouses, Dennis and Lunn Hanks of Janesville, Wis., Karen and Jim Engan of Kent, Wash. and Gary and Nedra Hanks of Littleton, Colo.; her grandchildren and spouses, Mark and Ann Hanks of Jonesburg, Ill., Michelle and Dan Andrew of aMcHenry, Ill., Amy Hanks and Matthew Hanks of Janesville, Wis., Scott and Kasia Engan of Seattle, Wash., Christy and Charles Batayola of Kennewick, Wash., MIchael and Juliet Engan of Singapore, Kathy and Jason Eglin of Goose Creek, SC and Sarah Hanks of Littleton, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Jack Hanks of Jonesburg, Ill., and Brendan Andrew of McHenry, Ill., and many brotherers-in-law, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law.
