ONAWA, Iowa -- Ellen Peyton, 86, of Onawa died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at her residence near Onawa.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa.

Ellen was born May 31, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Elsie (Senitz) and George Wingert. She attended country school north of Sioux City.
She married Denzil Peyton on Aug. 31, 1935, in Mitchell, S.D. The couple farmed in Turin, Iowa, and later near Onawa. Denzil passed away March 25, 1979, in Sioux City. Recently, she moved from the farm to her caregivers, Karen and Ted Hayden's residence at Blue Haven near Onawa.

She loved the farm and outdoor work.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Wes and Pauline Peyton of Omaha; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Bob Mings of Onawa; and two grandchildren, John Peyton of Lincoln, Neb., and Martin Peyton of Omaha.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Jerry Sloan; and two brothers, Walter and Lawrence "Buster" Wingert.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Simpson, Brad Simpson and Norman Dittman.
