Mapleton, Iowa-- Irene (Mitchell) Christophersen Lakner, 92, of Mapleton died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the funeral home.

Irene (Mitchell) Christophersen Lakner was born Jan. 19, 1891, in Correctionville, Iowa, to Frank and Carrie (Patterson) Mitchell.
She married John Christphersen on Oct. 4, 1928. John passed away Dec. 12, 1978. She married Joe Lakner on June 23, 1982. Joe passed away in October 2002.

John and Irene farmed northwest of Danbury, Iowa and moved to Danbury in 1956. She moved to Maple Crest Apartments in February 1981. She entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in 2001.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son and his wife, Alvin and Ann Christophersen of Mapleton; two daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Darrell French of Carroll, Neb., and Leona and Charles Montague of Hemet, Calif; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, three sons-in-law, her parents and a brother.

Pallbearers will be Ed and Len Schmale, David and Doug French and Joe, Dan, Pete and Tony Christophersen.
