MAPLETON, Iowa -- Johnny Lee Arndt, 38, of Sioux City, formerly of Mapleton, died of a heart arrthymia Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 4:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Johnny Lee Arndt, the son of John and Dolly Arndt of Castana, Iowa, was born Sept. 4, 1964, in Ida Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Maple Valley High School in Mapleton with the class of 1983. He served in the U.S. Army during the Granada conflict.
On July 24, 1999, he was united in marriage to Karen Wright in Holly Springs, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City, where he was employed as a truck driver.

He took pride in his Hot Wheels collection and took a special interest in World War II. He loved music and also was an avid football fan.

Left to cherish his memory include his parents, John and Dolly of Castana; a daughter, Laura Arndt of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, Zackary Lampe of Indianola, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Scott and Linda Arndt and their children, Nathan and Makayla of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Judith and Roger Krohn and their children, Jessica, Dolly and Katy of Mapleton; his beloved wife, Karen Arndt of Sioux City; two stepdaughters, Courtney and Brittaney Supri of Sioux City; a stepson, Thomas Supri of Sioux City; a grandfather, Kenny Butler of Onawa, Iowa; a great-aunt, Edna Arndt of Onawa; and many cousins, aunts and uncles who will remember him with smiles.

He was preceded to heaven by his maternal grandmother, Helen Butler; maternal grandfather, Willard Docken; an aunt, Pat McArthur; and paternal grandparents, Herman and Arnot Arndt.

Pallbearers will be Scott Arndt, Nathan Arndt, Thomas Supri, Roger Krohn, Phil Melby and Tim Hughes.
