MAPLETON, Iowa -- Clifford J. "Potts" LeFebvre, 79, of Mapleton died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at his residence following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Clifford Joseph "Potts" LeFebvre was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Mapleton, the son of Walter and Ella (Leitzen) LeFebvre. He was a lifelong Mapleton resident, where he was raised and educated.
He married Dorothy Erickson in Mapleton on July 19, 1951, and raised five children. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he worked as an electrician in the Mapleton area. He then joined his brother, Ronald "Ding" and formed LeFebvre Oil Company, which they owned and operated for several years. He then ran the bulk fuel truck until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 and served on the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Department.

He was an avid supporter of athletics in Mapleton. He loved watching his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and everyone else's children grow and participate in activities in the Mapleton area.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; two sons and their wives, Dan and Rosemary of Lawton, Iowa, and Randy and Gaye of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Terry Siebersma of Mapleton, Cindy and David Brown of North Sioux City, and Lori and Eric Allen of Mapleton; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Ronald "Ding" and Mary LeFebvre of Mapleton, and Bob and Elsie LeFebvre of Galesburg, Ill.; a sister, Jeanette Tierney of Danbury, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Walter; two grandchildren, Timothy Paul and Agnes Marie; four brothers, Dick, Leonard, Vincent and Ray; and a sister, Ann Stricker.
