MOORHEAD, Iowa -- Leonard Renz, 88, of Moorhead died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dunlap, Iowa. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.

Leonard was born March 2, 1915, near Dunlap, to Conrad and Cornelia (Frazier) Renz. He attended country school. He then worked in the wheat fields in South Dakota and northern Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, under Gen. Patton. He fought in all five major battles and received a Purple Heart Medal.
On Oct. 21, 1945, he married Clara Mohn at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. The couple farmed west of Dunlap for more than 50 years. Clara died June 10, 1996. He moved to Moorhead in the spring of 1998.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed farming, was a great storyteller and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his children, Duane Renz and his wife, Jane of Moorhead, Elaine Hall of LeClaire, Iowa, Colleen and her husband, Richard Juhl of Denison, Iowa, and Annette and her husband, Mike Foster of Papillion, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Baxter of Woodbine, Iowa, and Dorothy Birdsall of Slater, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Clara, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Renz and Mabel Parsons; two brothers, Wesley and Earnest Renz; and a son-in-law, Larry Hall.
