SOLDIER, Iowa -- Michael D. Barnett, 40, of Soldier died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a sudden illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, with the Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Burial will be in Ingemann Danish Lutheran Church Cemetery, near Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Michael Darrell Barnett was born Sept. 22, 1962, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Gloria Barnett. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute and later confirmed there. He received his education at Charter Oak - Ute High School and graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and graduated from Officer Candidates School at Camp Dodge in Des Moines.
He was united in marriage to C.J. Halbur on Feb. 14, 2001. They lived on an acreage near Soldier. At the present, the couple owned their own internet business.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Special joys in his life were his family, horses and his dogs. He was the one who promoted the family get-togethers and barbecuing. He had earned his private pilots license, was a certified scuba diver and graduated from the Reisch School of Auctioneering.

Survivors include his wife, C.J.; his parents, Darrell and Gloria Barnett of Ute; his maternal grandmother, Esther Hennings of Ute; his sister and her husband, Jane and Mike Ohlmeier of Ricketts, Iowa; three nephews, Matt and Shane Sorensen and Kade Ohlmeier; a niece, Sierra Sorensen; and many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Amos and Helen Barnett; and his maternal grandfather, Harvey Hennings.
