MAPLETON, Iowa -- Clara D. Dorale, 93, of Mapleton died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Clara Dora Anna Dorale was born Feb. 2, 1909, in rural Mapleton, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Farnall) Meyer. She was baptized on April 12, 1909, and confirmed March 25, 1923, into the Lutheran faith at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
On Feb. 22, 1948, she was united in marriage to George Engelke. He passed away Jan. 7, 1954. She then married Albert Dorale on Aug. 17, 1958, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. He passed away Dec. 6, 1982. She had lived in Mapleton for 34 years before entering Maple Heights Nursing Home in November 1994.

She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she was active all her life with Lutheran Church Women and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting in her leisure time, but her greatest pleasure was found in her family.

Survivors include a brother, August Meyer of Mapleton; her stepchildren and their spouses, Ruby and Don Stotkeister of Butler, Mo., Kenneth and Diane Dorale of Bronson, Iowa, and Donna and Mario Danna of Palo Alto, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special nephew and his wife, Marvin and Joyce Kruse of Mapleton; and many other nieces, nephews and good friends.

Along with her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gerhardt, Emiel and Carl Meyer; four sisters, Meta Fick, Ida Engelke, Freda Kruse and Martha Meyer; three brothers-in-law, John Fick, Marvin Engelke and Henry Kruse; and two sisters-in-law, Alta Meyer and Elfreda Meyer.
