WHITING, Iowa -- Alvin L. Harding, 88, of Whiting died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Alvin was born Nov. 25, 1914, in O'Neill, Neb., the son of Lloyd and Anna (Johnson) Harding. He attended school in O'Neill, Kingsley, Iowa and Ticonic, Iowa.
He married Lorraine Waugh on March 21, 1936, in Sioux City. He formerly farmed in Anthon, Iowa, and later farmed and trucked in Whiting. In 1972, he and his son, Lyle, established Harding Trucking in Whiting.

He was baptized in 1925 and was affiliated with Whiting Christian Church. He was a member of the Whiting Rodeo Association.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; a son and his wife, Lyle and Barbara of Whiting; two daughters and their husbands, Carol Ann and Jack Seward of Marble Falls, Texas, and Dixie and Sonny Kelsheimer of Centerton, Ark.; three brothers, Jim and his wife, Tess of Huntsville, Ala., Raymond and his wife, Myrna of Smithland, Iowa, and Leonard and his special friend, Gert of Whiting; a sister-in-law, Doris Harding of Whiting; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Verna Bartlett and Donna Rae "Tootie" Caster; a brother, Bernard; a grandson, Stacy; and a granddaughter, Christy.
