UTE, Iowa -- John H. Mohr, 78, of Ute died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with Pastor Edward Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Aaby Post 442 and VFW Post 5605, both of Ute. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home, Ute.

John Henry Mohr was born Nov. 20, 1929, near Ute, the son of John Fred and Minnie Anna (Freeking) Mohr. After high school,, he worked as a hired hand before entering the U.S. Navy in 1951. After an honorable discharge, John returned home and started farming on the Christman farm in 1955.
On Nov. 11, 1953, he married Delores Rubendall in Mapleton. One son was born to this union. The couple continued to farm in the Ute area until the early 1990s when they retired and moved in to town.

John was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. He enjoyed time spent fishing.

Survivors include Dee, his wife of 54 years; a son, Dennis Mohr of Denison, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Stanley and Miriam Mohr of Loveland, Colo.; two grandchildren, Kevin Mohr and his girlfriend, Amanda Beermann and Trisha Boettger and her husband, Michael, all of Denison; a great-grandchild, Mohrgan Ann Boettger; and a great-grandchild on the way, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; and a brother, Lester Mohr.

John truly enjoyed his friends and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
