Onawa Sentinel- 13 January 1972Walter T. Johnson, a lifetime resident of the Moorhead, Iowa area, passed away unexpectedly at Moorhead Monday Jan. 3, 1972 as a result of an apparent heart attack. He had reached the age of 58 years, 7 months and 20 days.
He was born at Moorhead on May 13, 1913, the son of Martin and Hannah Sorenson Johnson. He chose farming as his vacation and was also one of the principal stock feeders of the area.
On March 14, 1937 he was united in marriage to Ione Wilson at Storm Lake, Iowa and the family had made their home near Moorhead since that time. He was a member of Elk Lodge A.F.& A.M. of Moorhead.
Survivors are his wife, Ione; two sons, Paul Johnson of Gladbrook, Iowa and Raymond Johnson of LeMars,Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Jeanyce) Seieroe of Moorhead; two brothers Wilbur Johnson of Alden, Iowa and Darrell Johnson of Lee's Summitt, Mo.;Mrs. Robert (Lla) Denney, Colorado Springs, Colo; 4 grandsons; a stepmother, Hilma Johnson and stepsister, Mrs. George Drazich, both of Denver, Colo.
Preceeding him in death were a daughter, Janelle, his parents, one brother, Raymond and one sister, Ano.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 1972, at the Christian Church in Moorhead, with the Rev. Dwight Walker and Elder Wilbur Mann officiating. Mrs Jay Griffith was the organist and played "It Is No Secret" as an organ solo. Bearers were Earl Ballantyne, Gale Winegar, Charles Sorenson, Lawrence Hieber, Bus Ballantyne and Norman E. Lee. Interment was in the Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
