Elmer C. Torgerson, a lifetime resident of the Soldier area, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Soldier Wednesday afternoon, December 22, 1971. Death came at the age of 66 years.

He was born at Soldier, Iowa, December 13, 1905, the son of Ole and Sadie Johnson Torgerson. He had never married. He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ella Hartson of Sioux City, Mrs. Mabel Savery of Ute, and Mrs.Gladys Butler of Moorhead, Iowa and one brother, Kenneth Torgerson of Soldier. There are a few other relatives and many friends.

Elmer had been interested in a number of types of business. He had farmed for several years, worked as a blacksmith, operated a tavern, and worked as a seed corn salesman. During the years he had made many firends and acquaintances throughout the area.

Services were held at the Soldier Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Friday, December 24, 1971 with hte Rev. Arnold Mathisen officiating. Mrs. Charles Dommer, Jr. sang, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Mrs. Harry Andersen. Bearers were John Wade, Andy Swenson, Virgil Ehlers, Donald Lund, Robert Thoreson and Clifford Swenson. Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery with arrangments by the Pearson Funeral Home in Soldier.
