Walter Leo Kelly was born April 9, 1907 at Onawa, Iowa and passed from this life at his home south of Onawa on February 2, 1972. Death came at the age of 64 years 10 months and 27 days.

He chose farming as his vocation and spent his lifetime in this work. He had also served as a rural mail carrier and worked in operating heavy equipment in dirt moving.

On March 21, 1926 he was united in marriage with Flora Hoar at Onawa. To this union one daughter Joyce (Mrs. Elvin Mander) was born.
Walter was an active member of Vesper Lodge No. 223 A.F. & A.M. and Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star on Onawa. He held the title on the chapter as Past Patron. He was affiliated with the First Christian Church also of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, Flora of Onawa; his daughter, Joyce of Whiting, Iowa; one granddaughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Richard Wade of Whiting, IOwa; his mother, Mrs. Claude Kelly of Onawa; four sisters, Gertrude, Mrs. Johnnie Hughes of Onawa; Gladys, Mrs. Woodrow Carroll of Mapleton, Iowa; Margaret, Mrs. Lyle Pierce of Sioux City and Alma, Mrs. George Sanford of Schuyler, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

Service were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 1972 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Adair Kaehlar sang, "The Lord's Prayer," accompanied by Clara Kelley. Bearers were Fred Yanak, Dean Barney, George Beck, James Werling, Royce Beck, and Eddie Arndt. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearosn Funeral Home of Onawa.
